Kizhunna Ezhara Beach

Alappuzha Beach

Cherai Beach


Cherai Beach, one of the most beautiful beaches in Kerala bordering the northern end of Vypeen Island, is located about 26 km from Ernakulam city, Kochi. The place is a unique combination of sea and backwaters rimmed by lush green coconut palms and paddy fields. The backwaters are a combination of lakes, lagoons, canals and estuaries.  
The 15 km long golden Beach is very clean, shallow and is ideal for swimming, surfing and sunbathing. The newly beautified 400 Meters of the main beach has a walkway and High mask lamps which make the beach enjoyable even at night. Trained security staff are present round-the-clock in the beach. The Beach is very safe and tourists of all age groups can enjoy the Beach alike. The beautiful beach is studded with seashells of various hues and shapes. There is a park for children on the beach. Water Scooter and Speed Boats are available for hire. One could catch an occasional glimpse of Dolphins as they spring out and dive back into the water. The far end of the beach is lined with Chinese fishing nets which is a beautiful sight by itself. 

  • How to get there: 
    Air : Nearest airport is Cochin International Airport at Nedumbassery, 22km from Cherai 
    Rail : Nearest railway station is at Ernakulam,  about 26 km away. Kochi has 2 stations, Ernakulam Junction and Ernakulam Town. Trains from the Northern cities/Southern parts of India stop at Ernakulam Junction. Ernakulam Junction, D.H. Rd, Ernakulam South, Phone: 131; Ernakulam Town, Near North Bridge Phone: 2390920.
    Road : Now, the new Goshree Bridge from Ernakulam that stretches out across the backwaters connecting the islands of Bolghatty, Mulavukadu, Vallarpadam and Vypeen make tourist access to this beach much more easier. There is another road route via Edappally to North Paravur and from there to Cherai, a distance of about 25km. KSRTC Central Bus station is near the Ernakulam Junction railway station. 
    Water : There are regular boat services from Ernakulam High Court Jetty or the Main boat jetty to Vypeen. Cherai is 22km away (40 minutes by bus) from Vypeen island. There are also boat services every 15 minutes from Fort Cochin to Vypeen 
Kappad Beach

This is the historic beach where Vasco da Gama landed on the May 27,1498 with 170 men in three vessels. The rock studded beach is locally known as Kappakadavu. An interesting feature of the landscape is the rock that protrudes into the sea. 
On the rocks nearby is a temple believed to be 800 years old. To the tourist, however, this little sea faring town is a haven. The best route to Kappad is along the backwaters. Unspoilt and uncrowded, the picturesque backwaters of Kozhikode offers a bewitching experience. A ride down the backwaters through the Korappuzha river brings you to the beach 
Reaching Kappad:
The beach is 16 km from Kozhikode. The nearest airport is at Karipur, 23 km from Kozhikode town, which has flights from Mumbai, Chennai, Bangalore and the Middle East touching down daily. The place is also linked by road and rail with major cities and tourist centres in India

Kovalam Beach

Situated on the Malabar Coast along the Kerala shoreline is a small village of Kovalam. This quiet town of Kovalam came on the tourist map, when its beautiful and secluded beaches were discovered.

    The beaches of Kovalam can be divided in three parts. The southern most beach and the most popular from the three, is the Lighthouse Beach. Further south on the beach one can have a spectacular view of the Vizhinzam mosque, but photography is prohibited here.
The middle beach is called Hawah. Each morning this beach acts as a base for the local fisherman. The northern most beach, Samudra, is least affected of all by the changing times. It is dotted with few rudimentary wooden fishing vessels.

Thangasseri beach

The Thangasseri beach is yet another very beautiful beach in Kerala, God’s own Country. The Thangasseri beach stretches along 3km. The Thangasseri beach lies at a distance of 5 km from Kollam town.
The Thangasseri Light house lying on the beach was first used in 1902. This 144 ft tall structure was used to warn the seafarers about the dangerous reefs in the Thangasseri coastline. Nowadays it is considered to be a tourist’s attraction by many. It is open to the public everyday from 15-30 hrs to 17-30 hrs. Thangasseri is a destination once favored by the Portuguese, Dutch and the British rulers. This place has its own history. The walls of the forts stand erect as a witness to the long lost glory. Other places of interest are the churches built in the 18th century. The Thangasseri beach stands as a silent spectator of the golden past and the glorious present. Bekal Beach

The Bekal Beach is located near Bekal Fort. This fort is one of the best-maintained historic forts in Kerala. Situated on a headland that extends for 35 acres and reaches into the Arabian Sea, the Bekal Fort occupies a commanding position on a promontory. The Bekal Beach extends on either side, with stretches of clear sand flanked by rows of elegant palm trees. Dharmadam Island
 
Dharmadam Island is a beautiful beach, located 17 km from Kannur. The small 5-acre island covered with coconut palms and green bushes is a beautiful sight from the beach. Permission is required to enter this privately owned island. It is 100 mt away from the mainland at Dharmadam.

Kappil Beach

For those who prefer Thoreau to Harold Robbins, the secluded and relatively unexplored Kappil Beach should prove idyllic. 
This sun-drenched beach is a perfect getaway after a hectic tour of the nearby Bekal Fort, some six kms away. 
Adventurous souls can even ascend the nearby Kodi cliff to get a panoramic view of the Arabian Sea.

Marari Beach (Mararikulam)

Location: 2 km from Kannur town, Kannur district, north Kerala.

Thirumullavaram Beach
